Traveling from Bangkok to Phuket

We are traveling from Bangkok to Phuket in November. Can anyone tell me the best way to get there. Flights are easy to sort but we are really interested in getting the sleeper train. However, from what we are aware, the train does not go direct to Phuket. When we disembark from the train (no idea what station) we then have to get a bus??? Does anyone know how long the bus takes from the ????? station to Phuket? Or can anyone direct me to internet links which could give me this information.

On that internet site it says it's a 6 hour bus ride to Phuket...but on others it says 3-4 hours?
