Always thought my children should experience travel in different forms.
My older 2 have been on a plane, a steam train, locomotive, ferry and the usual ways car, bus etc. My youngest has been on the usual and a plane but I havn't taken her on trains or on a ferry yet.
I'm looking for ideas for a steam train and ferry ride we havn't done yet (no further than an hours drive out of the north west England) that doesn't cost too much. The ferry over to the Isle of Man for example for a family of 5 costs a heck of a lot for just a day trip.

So what do you think, can you recommend somewhere for me? I'm off for 2 weeks soon and am hoping the weather and day trips out will keep us all entertained!

Thanks in advance

For the train ride, try the North Yorkshire Railway. I don't know the cost but it runs from Pickering to Whitby thro a really beautiful part of the country. Just google it and you'll be able to get all the info you need

If you take Zacsmaster's advice and head up to the lakes, you could always go on the

Thanks for your ideas guys.

She has been on the boat in lakes and really enjoyed it looking for something a bit more heavy duty now, if you know what I mean.

I will look at the sites you have advised for the steam trains and let her have a choose I think.

Thanks again
