Cyprus for the Elderly

Can anyone suggest a hotel in Cyprus (Preferably N Cyprus) which is suitable for an elderly person who cannot walk far, but will not use a wheelchair? We aim to hire a car, but like to walk a short distance only for evening meals and entertainment. Thanks

You can now actually fly to Larnaca in Southern Cyprus and then be taken across by coach to the Northern side by some company's but still a long journey.It can be a long tiring flight when you have to land in Turkey first and on our return journey last time we had to actually disembark for refuelling and go into the airport building for a short while and then go through all the control area to get back on board. Worth it though as the North is beautiful. But we stayed in Kyrenia and I would not say it was a very good place for anyone with walking difficulties as very hilly and down at the beautiful harbour steps had to be negotiated .To go down by car would be fine though as there is a bit of flat promenade.

While it's true that some Republic of Cypriot companies are running coach trips to the north I'm not aware of any legal arrangement for arriving on one side of the Green Line in order to stay on the other. It's not much of a problem if you live here and cross in your own car (rental cars are still largely confined to their own sides of the border by the hire companies, though it's not actually illegal to cross from South to North and back. It will in all likelihood break the terms of your rental agreement, though. It is forbidden for Northern Cyprus hire cars to enter the South).

Personally, If I were bringing an elderly person with walking difficulties to Cyprus I'd probably look at the hotel district of LImassol; there's a huge range of hotels of all styles and budgets, more restaurants than you could shake a stick at and wheelchair-friendy access to most of the area. There's a flat path/wheelchair route/cycle path right along the beachfront into Limassol (about 4-5 miles in total)

Echoing what Patsyann has posted, the area around Kyrenia and inland at Bellapais is quite hilly. While there are resort hotels around the coast I think someone with limited mobility would be more or less limited to the hotel grounds, as pavements etc are very erratic. In the east towards famagusta the terrain is more level with easier access to the beaches.
