Travelling to Portugal next week, looking for advice on getting Euro Currency. Is it better to get them in uk, or take Sterling and exchange on resort. Any advice please.

Not sure about Portugal but we went to Lanzarote in June and changed our 's there and the rate was slightly better than over here so will probably be similar.
yeah, probably here is safer, and some tips, if few of you go together, may change your euro together, and ask the bereau to give you better rate, normally if more than 1000 transaction, they can do you better deal. also cash passport is quite popular as well, if you open one, doesnt matter how much you want to exchange, they always can give better rate. recommend tesco and sainsburys buureau, rates are best.
Assuming you are UK based as opposed to in a Euro country, most people would advise you to take a very limited amount out in cash for immediate expenses such as any taxi/transfer to accommodation, immediate food purchases, etc. - you will know your requirements. Beyond that it is actually unnecessary to have much cash at all because cards can take care of everything. It is fairly common knowledge that cards from Nationwide, Abbey (Zero) and the Post Office charge no commission on spending and (at least some of these) even on cash withdrawals abroad. Taking cash for all needs with you means comparing UK sources plus the liability of having the stuff on you all or most of the time.
