That's the standard at all UK airports - you put your handbag inside the other bag until you have gone through security. After that no-one's worried.

Some airports are relaxing the rule and allowing two items of hand luggage. Whether BHX is one of them I don't know. It depends whether they have increased their checking points/staff sufficiently to allow it.
Its a crazy rule .
Im not sure if they actually enforce it strictly
Afterall as soon as youre thru checkin and the scanner you can buy as many bags of booze and perfume as you want.
I see this all the time in tenerife airport and seeen it in majorca barcelona and other airports.
As dzug says put handbag in bigger bag then take back out after the scanner check.

In glasgow they definitely dont do this to men or women
ive seen guys with hand luggage and small backpack or women with handluggage and maonster handbag too.
what do you want with more than one piece of hand luggage

shove your handbag and cameras etc in to one backpack .put your passport and tickets in to the front pocket for easy access . no problem

dustypuss - I always have loads of hand luggage, books, puzzle magazines, boiled sweets, travel guide, insurance documents, travel games for the kids, and a spare pair or knickers (just in case my case goes missing), aswell as all the usual stuff in my handbag (hairbrush, purse, travellers cheques, currency, lipstick etc). I certainly struggle with putting my handbag inside my hand luggage!
I use BHX pretty regularly, and I've never seen a person of the female or any other persuasion (why, I wonder, does the question specify "ladies"? I know a number of chaps who use a bag - aren't they called "manbags" these days? - rather than stuff their pockets with all manner of rubbish) stopped from carrying a handbag in addition to one piece of hand luggage. I don't think you'd get away with two backpacks, though......
