Edited You do require photographic ID for which purpose a passport may be the best choice (esp. if you don't have a driving licence) but the strict answer is no.

Are you serious? How about from London to Wales; Wales to Scotland?
artvanderlay, if you fly, the airline will require photo ID at check-in (for security reasons).
