Are there any car parks near here? What is parking like on the side streets and are there restrictions?

I doubt that you'll find any car parking around that area. As far as I can recall (because I've not been there recently), the only street parking is very short term (for customers of local shops and services) or restricted to use by residents only.

The Multimap website shows car parks but a map of the area around E3 4PH ( = Mile End tube station) doesn't show a single one. The NCP website shows their nearest car park as being at Whitechapel High Street (Spreadeagle Yard), 1.2 miles from Mile End tube station. It's a surface car park, with 100 spaces. (5.20 for 2 hours, 9.50 for 4 hours, 10.50 for 24 hours. Only open from 0700 to 1900 on weekdays. Closed on Saturdays. 0830 to 1430 on Sundays, when it's 5.00 for up to 2 hours and 7.00 for over 2 hours).

It's probably best to park further out, and take the Central Line, District Line or Hammersmith & City Line to Mile End.

Thank you for your reply. Will take your advice and park in suburbs.Coming in on A2 thru Blackwall tunnel wher would you suggest i leave the car? Any ideas welcome
Hmm.

The nearest point to park for Mile End, coming from the A2??? Possibly Dover?!!

I still can't think of anywhere particularly obvious, or find many possibilities listed online. If you could find a space, there's an incredibly cheap (council run) car park very close to Plaistow station:
http://www.carparks4u.com/PLAISTOW/SETTLE%20PO INT.htm

From there, it's just 4 stops on a westbound tube (District Line or Hammersmith & City Line) to Mile End (or 1 stop further to Stepney Green).

However, my big concern would be that there are only 68 spaces. On a weekday the car park will probably fill up with season ticket holders very early on.

My own instinct would be to avoid the hassle of the Blackwall Tunnel and the incredibly poor signposting around that part of London. (Satnav doesn't help much when you get stuck in the wrong lane and nobody will let you move over!). I'd simply turn right on reaching the M25 and go through the Dartford Tunnel. At Junction 29, I'd head in towards central London on the A127. A short distance along, you pick up the signs, telling you to turn off to the left, to Upminster. Just follow those signs to the station. Go past the front of the station and turn immediately left. That takes you to Upminster station's large (NCP run) car park, with 540 spaces. (6 per day. The car park gets fairly full but I've always managed to find a space). Then it's 15 stops on the District Line to Mile End.

Doubt if your car would still be there on return.Lots of restrictions.

Please listen...the advice so far is not flippant ...it's absolutely true...your best plan is to leave the car at home and come in by train...parking in London is an absolute No-no
