USB modems in spain
10 Answers
Hi
Has anyone bought a spanish USB modem for use in their laptop while in spain?
I spend quite a lot of time there and have been told that buying a USB modem while I am over there could be a cheap (ish) way of picking up emails.
I have spotted a few non-contract versions on the vodafone.es site and wondered if anyone has used this sort of thing (or has any other suggestions).
Thank you

Hi netibiza
Thanks for all your helpful comments so far.
The one you have just described is the one I was thinking about. I found it at http://tienda.vodafone.es/do/catalogo/moviles/ modem
Are you in spain/ibiza? Are they available 'off the shelf'??
Thanks
Lynne

Hi Lindy, yes they are available over the counter but here in Ibiza (where I live) they are out of stock until beginning of December, The cheapest is 50 +/- to buy the modem and 19 recharge (which has to be used within 3months or you lose the remaining credit). If not recharged within 9 months then you loose the number, but guess you keep the modem as you've paid for it. I am delighted as I didn't know this was possible so am getting one for daughter, as 19 is easy to pay regularly. Am going to check with Movistar (my favourite company over here) and se if they have better terms. Will let you know.
Just reading these posts regarding the USB modem for laptops.
Here's a question to Netibiza, I'm coming over in June for a week with my sons, one is autistic and we are bringing his laptop for him to use. The place we're staying doesn't have internet access so I need to get something like your explaining this USB modem does.
Do you know if I can just purchase one from a shop in Playa den Bossa when I arrive or shall I get one sent to me before I leave. Also I am not great with computers and don't understand about MB's etc.
What top up do you think I would to last the week just for basic surfing the net not really any downloads or are they one of the same? My boy generally is on a computer for 4-5 staggered hours in a day so I have no idea how many MG's that would be.
I would really appreciate any ideas on this one.
Thanks
