Have been twice and there are some great places to visit. Lots of films shot on location here such as Star wars and The English Patient.
Trips available to see the troglodyte homes in Matmata, safaris into the desert, the collosuem at Sfax, Tunis, Cathage, Jerba etc. However some of these trips are quite expensive, and the food provided on some isn't all that great.
Don't freak out at the airport, hotel or when visiting the souks as you WILL be hassled for tips, to buy things and for money (as in begging), Just stay in control, be firm and don't allow any one to push goods into your hands - coz if you hold it they will expect you to buy it. Leather goods in the souks very good value, some lovely jewellery available and, of course, some fab fresh spices to be had. bargain down to an acceptable price or you will pay well over the odds for things.
Hope you have a great time
