Im going to America for a month at the end of the year, I was wondering if anyone could tell me what i need to get to be able to drive over there, like do i need an international driving licence? so if its that or something else could you point me in the right direction to gettin it please. Thanks for any help JK
From the AA website:
USA: IDP recommended as, in the event of an accident, some insurance companies will insist on seeing one. Additionally those licences which do not incorporate a photograph need to be accompanied by photographic proof of identity.

I did this earlier this month and all I showed the rental company (Alamo) was my credit-card-style UK licence with photo on it. Apparently I should have had the paper one as well, but I didn't know and nobody asked for it.
I've always just used my new style driving licence. You are supposed to have both parts with you though, and to carry the paper part with you whilst driving in case you are stopped by the police.
