New York for men??
My partner is thinking of going away with our 18 year old for a long weekend (male bonding). There are no shared sports interests. I know plenty of girls that have managed to bag quite cheap weekends in New York and talk of Bloomingdales and Broadway shows and hear about the Staten island ferry but is there stuff for men to do? Or any other cheapish suggestions please (under 1000 inc spends).

The touristy stuff is enough to keep anyone busy and can't see how things like the Empire State Building, top of the Rockerfeller Center (definitely at night!) etc... wouldn't appeal to both sexes.
Pretty sure you could get a helicopter ride over Manhatten.
Strangely enough, when I went with my ex, it was him who wanted to shop rather than me, in Macys, he went to shop and I went to Starbucks lol :)
Check out which gigs are on, places like Madison Square Gardens.

Just been having another think.
There tend to be film tours and sure they could find a general one rather than the more popular Sex and the City ones. They do Sopranos ones and I'm betting Godfather ones as well as places from films like Ghostbusters, Spider Man, King Kong, one of the Die Hards....
Some great places to eat as well like Planet Hollywood and Bubba Gumps and just wandering round Time Square is great in itself.
If the ex is anything to go by then the NY style diner breakfasts will go down well :) We found one called the Red Flame and went there every day.
If they are big kids then FAO Schwarz is a must, think Hamleys US style, where they did the big piano scene in BIG.
I didn't do all the shopping and girly stuff but had an amazing time there.
Just make sure they factor in tip money in their budget as it's a very tipping city.
