If I were to go into the PO or M&S today and hand over 9 and ask for euros, how much would they give me? When I go onto the net I seem to get bank rates. Hope someone can help.

For 9 you would get about 10 euros. www.xe.com has a handy converter for any currencies.
Ususally the rate changes from day to day. You probably will get more Euros for you Pound at your local bank on any given day. Anyplace that exchanges money usually charges some sort of fee and may be a day behind in the calculations of the exchange rate. You may or maynot get the best rate available.
when I googled on where is best to go, Marks and Spencers were mentioned a lot as being one of the best places to get a good rate and no commission charges.

Thank you, I know that M&S are considered one of the best hence why I mentioned it. Thing is, I need to pay somebody for an article which cost 9 (bought in England) in euros and want to know today's rate as in 'over the counter rate' at M&S.
Short of phoning up M&S, I dont know how you can be more accurate. Personally I would just pay ten euros.

Thanks grasscarp. I just wondered if there was a way of finding out. I'll offer 10 if they pull a face I'll add an extra euro!
the easiest way is to go to m&s website

http://www6.marksandspencer.com/pages/default. asp?PageId=ER&Product=TM

where todays rate is
1.0689.

then multiply it by 9

giving you a tital of 9.62

you owe them 9.62 euros.

xe.com and the other currency converters are no use for tourist rates

you can also got to the post office website and to sainsburys and tescos too.

there a slight difference i would imagine between stores .

10 would seem bets anyway.as they did bring it to you and luggage costs are fast becoming more expensive than flight tickets.

????DID THIS HELP ??
ooops total of 9.62 lol
Have a look here before you go to M&S. We found much better rates than them from many of these people.

At today's Post Office rover the counter rate - something like 9.40
We found much better rates than them from many of these people.

OP doesn't really want the best rate - his interest is (within reason) getting the worst rate......
