We're holidaying in Spain and need to travel from Barcelona to Girona and to Tarragona. Do we need to book the trains in advance or is it safe to turn up on the day? Booking seems to be limited to times that aren't convenient.

Thanks!

I don't know the answer to your question but if you go on tripadvisor.co.uk and ask a question on a forum for spain they may be able to help you
Hi Platespinner, I was going to give same answer as CAJ1. I go on there often for travel advice you get good answers. Try this link it will take you straight to the Barcelona forum. You will have to register before posting your question but it only takes a minute.

Does it have to be a train as you can get a courier - we have booked A to B travel from Barcelona to Tossa del Mar which is 28 return but I know they go to Girona and else where
Those are lines that will have local (non-booking) services on them so safe to tun up on the day
Go directly to the Renfe web sight and you can find out when the trains run out of Barcelona to each of these cities.
They will usually tell you if you need to book ahead. Most of the time there is a commuter train that runs to these places that does not require a booking.Terragona has 50 regional and long distance trains that run from Barcelona each day. Regional trains are a little slower but still only 1 1/2 hours from Barcelona for about 6 Euros. 20 trains to Girona at about the same price. I have been on both and have never had to book ahead with the exception that I usually get my ticket the day before at the train station
www.renfe.es try it you will like it.
