Thanks Buenchico. I've got the books and a reason for going. I should have been more specific. I wondered if there are any personal experiences out there which may be useful.

When we went to Cancun, the plane flew from manchester, across the Atlantic and then across Newfoyndland and down the eastern seaboard, Newfoundland went on and on and on and on and on for about an hour and a half, it;s bloody big, and there weren't many lights on, and so it is fairly quiet.

The Viking settlement at L'Anse aux Meadows was must for me.

Whale watching in season - not sure if it is.

Visit France in the form of St Pierre - take some euros.
