dun laighoire to Donegal

Have any of you done this trip? Is it a good road and approximately how long does it take. Also, does any one know Donegal itself? What's it like? Just generally. Many thanks.

the N3 Navan road is notoriously congested, particularly at peak times - nevertheless it should be possible to do the journey in about 4-5 hours.

Spent a week in Donegal this time last year - based near Ardara. A quiet and beautiful part of Eire - underpopulated, poorly maintained and generally narrow roads with very little traffic on them. Beautiful scenery, perhaps similar to the west coast of Scotland. We were blessed with brilliant weather but it clearly rains a lot there. Geographically isolated from the rest of Eire and generally quite poor. A maasive number of holiday bungalows were springing up everywhere as second holiday homes for folks from Eire or N Ireland. We used it as a base for walking and sightseeing (scenery) and to access the western parts of NI (Londonderry and the Giant's Causeway).
Depends what you are looking for, I guess.
Relatively expensive even a year ago - worse now because the poor value of the pound to the Euro.

I travelled there from Belfast last week, roads not great but this is the beauty of Co. Donegal,
the ruggedness and scenery is beautiful, I went to get away from the hussle and bussle of city
life, so I didn't shop, watch TV use computers or phones, the peace and tranquillity was brilliant.

Apparently they have stopped building anymore holiday homes and prices not that different from
Norther Ireland.
