We're travelling to Cork this weekend and renting a car. I've driven abroad before (not Ireland) but my partner hasn't. Do the roadsigns look the same as in the UK? What about speed limits etc? And, if you know the area south of Cork city, any tips for where we should go and what we should do? Staying near Glengarriff and Skibbereen. Thanks in advance.

Driving is almost the same as the UK, with one strange and inconsistent exception. Speedlimits are in kilometres per hour, but distances are shown in miles (or is it the other way round).

In Co. Cork you will not be able to break the speed limit, due to all the pot holes in the roads!

 

Cork is a great city.  Last time I was there, the prison had a big sign outside saying that one and two bed rooms were always available!  Have fun.

The speed limits are in miles per hour (for the moment) and all the distances are in kilometres.

Cork city and county is a wonderful relaxed friendly place. I suggest sitting in a pub with a log fire, drinking pints of stout untill you fall off your stool. Ohhh, I'm so jealous!
