looking at booking a trip for mr moo's 40th. do the prices go up near to xmas? seems very expensive (900 per person for 5 nights) and im wondering if its because we want to go mid dec?

The price may be high due to how close it is to Xmas but then other factors could be influencing the price eg hotel or flight or whether you are booking the trip yourself or going thru a travel agent.
Could you travel earlier or later to get a better price or if getting it from an agent have a look for yourself on expedia for example and price the trip to see if you save.
Myself plus 2 went to NY last year in March and got 6 days for just over £1000 total,was done on expedia.
Enjoy your trip when you go.
Christmas is high season for most leisure destinations, and NYC is one although it's also a business town - you might well find it cheaper a couple of weeks earlier.
