sandwich at the airport - check in rules
sorry for my ignorant question, i am aware that only an absolute minimum or zero liquids are allowed through airport check in (clear bags etc), but does this also apply to food, ie in terms of snacks (sandwiches/crisps) in your hand luggage? thanks.

In the US after you have gone through security there are usually food vendors close to the gates. Anything that you buy there is allowed on the airplane. In fact when you change flights as long as you do not go out past security checkpoints you can buy anything you want and take it on board. These places are secured and only carry items that can be carried on board. These do not carry knives, razors or anything that is a hazard.
When I took a picnic (minus drinks) from home for the plane ride last year, I just kept the sarnies in a separate bag so I could show the security people as I went through. There was no problem. My train of thought that there's no harm in trying, and if it saves a few pounds by not having to buy food at the airport to take on the plane, all the better! Just try it - so long as they can see what you've got, the worst they'll do is take it off you...
