i found a hotel and resort in mallorca that seemed perfect, but when i looked on tripadvisor, all the comments were in german!
Should this put me off? Or is it mainly a german site?
Are you saying you wouldn't want to go there if it was Germans who mainlky went there, or that you cant translate the german comments? If you cant translate the comments, i think they have a star rating you can look at
Trip Advisor is an exellent site as long as you read lots of critique and then make a decision. Do not accept the view of one or two, it needs to be broad. It is also international of course.
no, i don't mind germans being there! My mum once went on holiday to majorca, and they were the only english people in the hotel. She felt very much out of place and it was just at the back of mind. I wondered how come all the reviews were written in german - but probably just coincidence.
thanks guys
it may well be on the books of some German version of Thomsons; and if there aren't any comments in English, it's probably not on the books of a British holiday company. It depends whether there are four comments or forty, but it does seem possible that there won't be many Brits there. Tripadivsor itself is international - heavily American in fact, but you won't get many Americans in Mallorca.
Hi crisgal, If I were you I would go to tripadvisor in the Mallorca section and ask them. They will be able to tell you what the hotel and resort are like. I have often been on Tripadvisor for advice and given some myself. I find that they are usually very helpful. The majority of people giving advice on Mallorca I have found seem to be British and a number of them actually live on the island.
I suspect that's the answer then, crisgal: you'll get a lot of Germans there. I should think staff will still speak English, good or bad, as it's the main tourist language, but you won't have a lot of fellow guests to chat to about EastEnders.
There are an awful lot of hotels in that area that will be full of mostly germans... they just love it there for some reason! expect the hotel to be of a very good standard, but mostly catering to german tastes in food and drink.... and the inevitable towels on the sunbeds at dawn of course!
I generally trust tripadvisor but I would suspect that most people who have a grievance would write comments and that people who have a good time and nothing to complain about don't bother to inform them. I know I'm like that anyway!!

Why should the comments put you off because they are written in German? If they are positive I see no valid reason to defer.
