Travel to USA for Holiday and seperately for summer employment??

Does anybody know if the fact that a fine has been obtained (and nothing else) for shoplifting will prevent/cause problems when one is hoping to go on holiday to USA and also when one requires a work permit for a seperate summer job at a different time? I have no idea with visa's etc

It will cause you great problems - theft is moral turpitude. It will prevent you (honestly) using the visa waiver scheme and may prevent you getting a visa at all.

You are working to US definitions of arrest, conviction, etc, not UK ones. You may have no criminal record in UK eyes, but it's what the US think that counts.

In reality you may well get away with not declaring it. That is a statement of fact, not a recommendation.

so in the eyes of the us a penalty fine is equivalent of say a conviction and so even though there was no arrest inthe UK then a visa will not be allowed?

if yoiu weren't convicted by a courtm how could you get a fine? what did they fine you for?

an on the spot fine where u are given the fine at the scene...no police station, no court stuff, a ticket for shoplifting as mention that was paid...no conviction??

well I;ve never heard of that, who did you pay the fine to?

its a fixed penalty notice thing..the same place u pay fines for any other thing such as litter dropping, not cleaning up after your dog and so on
