Hello, I am a British citizen who will be working in the USA this summer on a J1-VISA.

I would like to travel to Ecuador and stay there for 1 month after working in the USA. I understand that I don't need a VISA to visit Ecuador.

Am I able to leave the USA and go to Ecuador without returning to England first?

I will have to go back to England via the USA also. Is this allowed even though my VISA will no longer be valid?

Thank you in advance.

You should have no problem entering Ecuador directly from the USA. Ecuador does not require any visitor (regardless of their nationality or country of origin) to hold a visa when entering the country for a stay of 90 days or less.

You might need a USA C1 transit visa for your return journey but, from the US Embassy website, it appears that you're exempted if you qualify for the Visa Waiver Program. See here:

If in doubt, contact the US Embassy:
