I am having a very short holiday in June in Austria, travelling by coach to Stanstead & then flying to Salzburg, would like help on the best & least expensive insurance cover. I shall possibly go in the very early hours of a Wednesday morning & return on the Saturday taking only hand luggage.
it's probably worth using a comparison website - the one with the demented Greek or the one with the Italian opera singer would do - they won't necessarily give you every insurance company but you should get a wide choice. If you lose something on holiday it's quite often better to claim for it under your household insurance.
First of all, remember to take your European Health Insurance Card with you and (importantly) keep it with you. If you break your leg you'll get free outpatient treatment at a state hospital or, if they keep you in, you'll only pay the same daily rate that Austrians pay. If you don't take your EHIC (or if you leave it in the hotel) you'll have to pay the full charges (which your insurer might refuse to refund as you should have used your EHIC).
Just a reminder about the European Health Insurance I had forgotton that they are only valid for three years. it wasn't until we came home from holiday at the beginning of the month that I realised the Health Insurance had expired three weeks previously. I will have to renew it before we go off again.
Have you thought about supermarket insurance birdie73, we had Asda travel Insurance they were the cheapest.
Thanks so much jno, Buenchico,Rhoda-677 & Askagran, for all your helpful suggestions, I think I shall have a busy weekend. One thing I don't understand is a Health Insurance Card where do I get this from ?. You can tell I am not a seasoned traveller not abroad anyway.
Thanks jno its to be a girlie break (no husbands), I am really looking forward to it,am going with a very good friend who has a daughter living there, so will have someone to keep an eye on us & show us the sights.
