Near where I live there is a village pond with ducks. On rainy days (which I am assured are good for ducks) all the ducks make a perilous journey across the road to a large grassy area. This has led my good wife to speculate that ducks eat worms which rise to the surface after rain. Is this so? I had always assumed them to be herbiforous.

They are largely herbivorous, but also eat insects, snails, worms, frogs etc
They love snails  - I have a friend who keeps ducks & if I take them a boxfull I get mobbed.  It's revolting, I can't watch!
we kept ducks and they love the worms and keep the garden clear of slugs (not the big fat orange ones - ugh!)
