The red shirt leadership surrendered, protests have largely died down and apparently the demonstrations were largely confined to a small part of the city anyway. The Foreign Office has downgraded the travel advice to 'caution' rather than 'dont go unless you absolutely must'. Would you go to Bangkok now or in a couple of month's time. I'm seriously contemplating but would love the views of others...

If I had the opportunity to go I would go anytime, going now wouldn't bother me too much. Obviously I wouldn't want to get caught up in any trouble but I wouldn't put it on hold.
Nope - far east doesn't interest me at all. Did Hong Kong & China - that was enough for me. Friend of mine has been to India, Thailand & Vietnam - why?
That's bang out of order, if you ask me..............

Living in Bangkok, it is all calm at the moment. There may be more trouble, the underlying problems have not been solved, but no-one feels it is imminent. Hotels are quiet now, so lots of offers around. I would be fine to recommend friends to come over at the moment, but check the implications for any travel insurance you need.

During the actual trouble, it was confined to a small (albeit central) area. The day it all kicked off, the nearest fires were 600 metres from my apartment and the roads around were closed. Two days later, back to normal, other than a few blackened buildings.

BTW, the western media reporting (and I am looking at CNN and BBC particularly) was an absolute disgrace.
