does anyone know of a cheap way to get back from colchester to chelmsford at about 2/ 2:30 in the morning? for 5 days a week for about a month i've got a taxi quote of £45, but i only wanted to pay about £20 at the most, ideally less.

Sorry, but the only way you'll do it cheaper is a very long way round.

Take the X22 from Colchester to Stansted Airport. (Departs from University of Essex at 0225, Colchester Bus Station at 0240 and Colchester Rail Station at 0250. Arrives at Stansted at 0348)
Then take the X30 from Stansted to Chelmsford Bus Station. (Departs at 0400. Arrives at 0435).
Fares = £13.50 + £8.00 = £21.50

You can arrive in Chelmsford just 37 minutes later by simply waiting for the 0445 train ex Colchester(arriving at 0512) for £7.60.

ow!!! bless you for looking all that up for me! that's really sweeet of you :-) i don't know wather to say this as you've gone to so much trouble but there is a train that leaves colchester at 4:45, so i would get back to chelmsford just after 5. but on the down side It would mean over two hours of waiting around which i don't think is such a good idea as it's not very safe. Ow i don't know what to do.
Thankyou Chris xx
Have you thought of car sharing with another night worker? Take care - but there might be others in the same position who would be happy to share travel costs.
It's 25 miles between the two so, with the best will in the world, I can't see how a licensed Hackney operator would do it for any less, even as a regular source of income for a month.

i have thought about that Borrheid, but i don't know anyone that will be making that trip at that time and i'm too frightened to get into a car with someone i don't know. Ow what a nightmare, i'm learning to drive but it's gonna be about 3 more weeks until i'm ready to take my test and to make things worse my driving instrutor has just gone on hoilday :-(
Thavnkyou for all your help though xx
Does your place of work (assuming that's what it is) close at that time - or could you stay there in safety until it's time to go for that first train?
I would say 45 quid for 5 journeys between Colchester and Chelmsford at that time of the morning is a very good deal, especially as the taxi driver would have to get back to Colchester and it's highly unlikely they would be able to get a paid fare on the trip back. I would agree with you that neither Colchester town or Colchester north station are the best places to be hanging about at 2am though!

(if you do get a taxi can you tell them to be quiet if they come past my house :))
