I am doing a road trip from NYC to CA in this month along route 10 (or there abouts) Does anyone have any interesting suggestions of places to visit along the way?

BTW, Interstate 10 begins in Jacksonville, Florida so you'll probably be using Interstate (I) 95 from NY to the south. This takes you through Washington, D.C., the nations capital and you could spend a week there... be sure to at least see the Smithsonian Institute... it'll take a day. The trip along the eastern seaboard will be beautiful this time of year since the azaleas and dogwoods will be starting to bloom. Don't miss a short side trip through the Great Smoky Mountains. After picking up I 10 you'll travel through New Orleans... what can I say but "eat Cajun". At least try the crawfish e'touffe'. Want to know what crawfish are?... don't ask, just enjoy. Route goes through Old South, plantations and live oaks into east Texas. The route through west Texas is going to try your patience. The native creature there are jackrabbits... and they carry their own lunch, it's so far between places. Major city in west Texas is Midland-Odessa at the south end of the huge plain called Llano Estacado ("Staked Plains)... ask someone about the origin of the name. Once you get into New Mexico and Arizona, the scenery is much improved, all the way to California... welcome to America!

Fantastic info from Clanad!!! My only disagreement would be that you won't see anything in bloom this month in the Washington, D.C. area. I live about 25 miles northeast of Washington, D.C. and not much starts to bloom until mid March. Once you get south of there you will start to see more flowers and green trees.
When driving through Arizona you might want to consider a side trip to Tombstone where the gunfight at the OK Corral took place. You will be amazed at how small the corral really is. It's about an hour detour and much of the town has old historic buildings. An interesting taste of the old west.
Another interesting side trip would be a detour along route 90 in Florida. It runs along the coast and is a nice ride with great views of the Gulf of Mexico. You could just do a short strip of it by taking route 331 south, which is west of Tallahasee.
Have a wonderful trip and welcome to the USA!
