We young ladies (all over 60) are going to San Francisco in May next year. What's the best places to see? Is the City Pass worth buying?

ops new to this site forgot to say Thanks Lardhelmet
Alcatraz is an absolute must!!!!
Ooh yes - Alcatraz is great (I'd forgotten that). We flew round it in a helicopter, right round the bay - brilliant.
Didn't you go over on the boat to tour it, lardhelmet? It's just brilliant! In fact I'd say it's probably the best 'tourist attraction' I've ever been to. Fascinating!
Yes naomi I did, but it was the first time I'd flown in a helicopter, so I guess that memory stuck more
Ha ha. Maybe. :o)
I'm another big Alcatraz fan, facinating place!

Going to a viewpoint overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge and the bay from above is also something pretty special!

A cablecar ride is a must.

I loved all the little shops and such round Fishermans Wharf too, by where you get the boat over to Alcatraz.
San Simeon, the home of William Randolph Hearst is amazing. It's a couple of hundred miles away from SF, but you could organise a coach overnighter trip. Well worth the effort
Also make sure you check out Lombard Street. It's the most crooked street in the world and is fun to watch traffic going down.
Sausilito on the other side of the Bridge is lovely.
For Alcatraz, make sure your either book before you go, or book on the day you arrive, it's almost impossible to book on the day you want to go.
Good place to eat is Scomas, Pier 47, don't be put off by the access.
I would recommend Muirs Wood which is just past Sausilito. Some amazing trees there.
