other than travel insurance and the purchase of turkish visa (upon arrival) do i need to take anything else with me eg if i need medical treatment when im there

Whereabouts are you going? The excursions to Ephesus, Pamukkale & Dalaman are excellent. All day boat trips were good too - very cheap if you go down to the shore and book there rather than the tour operator.

That's near where we were - Olu Deniz has a very nice beach.
