Visiting Hong Kong
We are visiting our son in New Zealand Dec/Jan, we went via Singapore last time and are thinking of going via Hong Kong this time. Is it a good place to visit, and if so where are the best places to stay, also one other question is it expensive. Hope someone can help.
Thanks.
Thanks.

'where are the best places to stay' impossible to answer without some sort of info on the standards you are after / can afford.
My advice would be to use the vast resource of the Internet to see what you would enjoy about Hong Kong. I found this guide to hotels without too much effort and there are hundreds of tourist guide sites.

We went two years ago for 9 days. We took our then 16 and 14 year old sons, and we all had a fantastic time. As we were there for a while we rented an apartment, but there are plenty of hotels. Our favourite place was The Peak. The tram ride up to the peak is quite something, but so is a taxi ride up there, and the double decker bus back down! There are loads of restaurants and shops up there and the views are fantastic. We stayed in Kennedy, which is at the end of the tram line. The trams (the peak one is different) are really cheap and worth a ride just to experience all the sights and sounds, and smells, especially along Dried Seafood Street! There is a market in Kennedy which we found fascinating. If you ever want to buy anything that has ever swum, crawled or slithered through the sea this is the place to go, and it's all still alive. There were even buckets of frogs. (If you ever want to buy anything that has ever swum, crawled or slithered through the sea and has then been dried you need to go to Dried Seafood Street!). There are fascinating shops, markets, Temples, Museums etc etc. There's bound to be something there for you. Oh and don't forget the Star Ferry which goes from Hong Kong Island to Kowloon. We managed to get on one which was travelling across at 8pm and so had a wonderful view of the laser show which happens every night. We didn't find Hong Kong particularly expensive, though like anywhere you could spend a lot of money if you wanted to. We found some absolute bargains when we were shopping (though there are a lot of designer shops, we just didn't go in those!), and lots of cheap places to eat, but again, if you want to splash the cash you can.
It can be cheap or expensive depending where you stay and what you eat; there's quite a range. Air NZ fly via HK and also via LA, so you could go one way and come back the other. I've enjoyed visiting there - depends what sort of thing you like doing, but you should have no trouble filling a few days.
