Airport closure
Some airports are now closed for at least 24hours,some flights will probably be cancelled. Will people who cannot get away on holiday be able to claim off there holiday insurance or will there be a get out clause due to adverse weather conditions.

Since people have been advised not to travel to closed airports – they will not be able to claim off their insurance. Others should be able to confirm this position from their experience during the airport closures due to the Iceland volcano eruptions earlier in the year. Although I believe that some insurers paid out – even though the policy wording allowed them a get out.

Hi all
We was due to fly to Gran Canaria at 9.30am but with the spanish air strike we was told to go home and come back tomorrow, we even got on the plane and sat on it for almost two hours, i am with direct travel insurance and i have looked in their terms and conditions and it states that they will pay out if there is a delay of over 12hrs. We will have been delayed for over 29hrs (although we were told to go home or stay in an hotel until 2pm on sunday). Would direct line say that this is not a delay?. They do not open until 10am to find out and because we are only going for a week we will lose nearly 2 days of our holiday if we decide to go. On the other hand if we cannot claim, we will lose £650 plus £100 for my 2 cats in the cattery. Please help
