I have not completed a booking but Auto Europe offer a car for £203.29 for pick-up at the airport at 1430 on 9.7.11 to be dropped off again at 1300 on 16.7.11 - no indication that I can see suggesting the office is closed, although I only went as far as the page asking for flight and payment data. But when I entered times in the middle of the night, the statement that...

This should help- booking may be with Europcar but don't be surprised if the vehicle is supplied by a local firm in partnership with them as an agency - this is common and you still have the security of a large car hire firm behind the booking. Hope this helps.

Thank you all for your answers. My flight arrives in Perpignan on 9 July at 14.10 (pick-up 15.00) and leaves the following Saturday at 14.50 (drop off 12.00).
Each time I try to book, both Hertz and Europcar websites indicate that the pick up office is closed at these times. Can anyone advise me?
TIA

Perpignan is a very small airport, with just a few flights. (For example, today there were only 4 departures and 4 arrivals). That means that the car rental desks are only open for very limited hours.
National Citer's desk is open between 0930 and 1015, and then between 1400 and 1445, daily. So you should be able to pick up a car if you book the time as, say, 1430 (rather than 1500). If you can get back to the airport rather earlier (or later) you'll also be able to drop it off:

It's likely that, by slightly tweaking your booking times, you'll also be able to book with other firms.

But when I entered times in the middle of the night, the statement that the office is closed came up. Thus I assume you can get a car to suit your timing from Auto Europe without any problem at all - unless for some reason you don't want to hire from them.
I should perhaps have mentioned that Auto Europe are wholesale clearers and your car will be provided by a local office which in many cases is someone like Avis, Europcar, Hertz, etc. - whoever is cheapest and/or most convenient. I almost always use Auto Europe and have no complaint whatsoever. One point of advice - if you take out an annual excess cover insurance policy with www.insurance4carhire.com then you need not take out the (usually) extortionately priced cover that the hire companies offer. It is cheap peace of mind, for care hires over a whole year (starting150km minimum from your home).
