Hi Lion, probably a combination. An ATM card linked to a debit account, a credit card and some travellers cheques. I don't know if you have to prove at customs how much money you have like you do for the USA.

June is the first month of our Winter and is cold in Southern Climes but still warm up North particulalry Cairns which has temperatures in the low to mid 20's celcius. Sydney in June would be like Autumn over there and could range from low teens to around 20 degrees. Nights will be cool but not freezing.

Melbourne will be coldest and wettest. it would stay around the low teens for most of that time. Be prepared for anything to happen weather wise in Melbourne, but it's certainly not as bad as the depths of a British winter.

Can I recommend that you open a Nationwide bank account, for cash withdrawals, as they do not charge anything for withdrawals made abroad, and still give a very good exchange rate.  My HSBC account charges 1-2, I reckon that opening a nationwide account with debit card before I left on a 6 month trip saved me about 300 at least.
