'Fun In The Sun Awaits Those Approaching Retirement'
Most people are looking forward to the days when they can put their feet up and finish work for good. Many will spend the time just relaxing or pottering in the garden. However, there seems to be an increasing amount who will take the opportunity to get away and travel the world.
People of the baby-boomer generation are looking to move abroad once they reach retirement age, according to new research. A study from Bradford & Bingley has found that nearly half of people would like to have travelled overseas more frequently in their lives. In addition, more than a third state that they wish they had started saving earlier on in life.
According to the firm, the over-50s account for more than a third of all journeys made abroad by Britons, as "there's no stopping globetrotting grandparents or restless retirees".
The company added that almost a fifth believe they should have given living or working abroad a try. The head of savings for Bradford and Bingley commented that those over 50 are now increasingly looking to getaways in the sun. More and more may also be looking to pick up holiday insurance to keep them covered.
“It appears many over-55s do have something they regret, but in most cases it is not too late to do something about it. Putting money aside and making it work for them means they are one step closer to realising their dreams, whether this be travel to exciting destinations or making a more permanent move abroad," he said.
You are usually described as a baby-boomer if you were born in the birth boom during the decades after World War II. By the sheer force of its numbers, the baby-boomers are a demographic bulge which remodels society as it passes through it.
