Head To Bath For A Splashing Good Time

16:36 Mon 24th May 2010 |

Bath is a "beautiful" UK holiday option, it is claimed. The Somerset destination has "all the delights of a continental city" according to its tourist board.

"[It has] stunning architecture, history, heritage and irresistible food and shopping, easily rivalling that of its European counterparts," the authority said.

The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Bath is well known as a romantic city with a winning combination of beautiful Georgian architecture, stunning scenery, luxurious hotels and accommodation and superb restaurants. Locally-caught fish, handmade cheeses and organic meat are among popular fayre here.

Whether you are celebrating an anniversary, proposing to your loved one, or just want to spend some quality time together; Bath - with its intimate size, laid back atmosphere and countryside right on the doorstep - is the perfect destination.

Places such as the Royal Crescent, the Circus and Pulteney Bridge are among "the most impressive architectural sights in the world", it comments.

The fact it is home to Britain's only natural hot springs is also attractive – soaking sessions can be taken at the Thermae Bath Spa usually in two hour sessions. The spa is open until 10pm and you can enjoy a moonlit dip in the open-air rooftop pool overlooking the beautiful city.

A total of 16 painting exhibitors are located here too – including the Victoria Art Gallery, which houses work from practitioners of the 15th century through to the present day.

Celebrating one of Bath’s most famous residents, The Jane Austen Centre offers a snapshot of life during Regency times and explores how living in this magnificent city affected Jane Austen’s life and writing. Visit the Regency themed Tea Rooms. Enjoy a pot of real leaf tea, some homemade cake or a delicious light snack. The Tea Rooms also have splendid rooftop views over the city.

You don't have to spend a fortune on a visit to Bath. It's the ideal place for a holiday closer to home or a stop off for backpackers. The official Bath Visitor Card offers a range of discounts in Bath and beyond.
