Madame Tussauds is a must for any visitor to London, combining its diverse history with the relentless glamour, intrigue and infamy of 21st century celebrity. Madame Tussauds continues regularly to add figures that reflect contemporary public opinion and celebrity popularity.

Millions and millions of people have flocked through the doors of Madame Tussauds since they first opened over 200 years ago and it remains just as popular as it ever was. There are many reasons for this enduring success, but at the heart of it all is good, old-fashioned curiosity.

The history of the attraction has its roots dating back to Paris of 1770 where the original Madame Tussaud began to model wax likenesses. In 1765, Tussaud made a waxwork of Marie-Jeanne du Barry, Louis XV's mistress. A cast of that mould is the oldest work currently on display.

Following a successful tour of the UK, Madame Tussaud established a permanent base for her exhibition in London in 1835 as the Baker Street Bazaar. The attraction moved to its present site in Marylebone Road in 1884. The attraction continues to expand globally with established international branches in New York, Hong Kong, Las Vegas, Shanghai, Amsterdam and Washington DC.

Tickets can be bought online, over the phone and in person at the box office. Often there are discounts for booking online and also special deals where tickets for other London attractions such as the London Eye can be purchased at the same time.
