16:36 Mon 24th May 2010 |

In the past Oslo has been the focus of many political discussions but as one of Europe’s best kept secrets, full of contrasts and exists as a growing metropolis of gleaming skylines and ultra-modern shopping- creating a fascinating juxtaposition of wide avenues and stunning historical architecture. On the other hand there are a vast amount of forested areas, public parks, botanical gardens and a maze of pathways waiting to be explored so let’s focus on the present and the future and start exploring.

Make Love not War:

Oslo has been the capital of Norway for more then 700 years. The history of Oslo dates back to the Middle Ages, and the first constructions dates back to the year 1000, providing some spectacular historical architecture to peruse at your leisure. Located at the end of the Oslo fjords the city is surrounded by picturesque forest so get lost and indulge yourself in the natural beauty this city has to offer.

Norway's capital city boasts a spectacular setting at the head of a long fjord. One of the best ways to approach Oslo is by sea with the journey taking you along scenic fjords where fishing boats jostle with cruise liners and luxury yachts. While sailing through luscious green islands and outcrops the city unfolds before your eyes - sprawling out from its compact centre around the quays to the flanks of the surrounding hills.

Sightseeing:

For such a comparatively small city, Oslo is remarkably well supplied with museums and galleries. The compact city centre retains much of its medieval layout, amid acres of greenery and parks. Within walking range of the centre, there are pleasant districts through which to browse, enjoying the street life and the shops, where you can pick up a reminder of your trip. Highlights of a sightseeing trip to this city should include the Akerhus Palace and Fortress, known as the Akershus Slott and Festning. Other must sees should include The Munch Museum and the Kon-Tiki Museum.

Eating out in the city is a fascinating experience as the array of restaurants is pretty impressive. If you’re looking for a superb gastronomic encounter then you should try the Annen Etage Michelin restaurant located in the Continental Hotel. Offering an international menu inspired by French cuisine with an adequate sized bar.

If you’re looking for a more trendy dining experience you should try the Theatercafeen, buzzing with atmosphere with international cuisine of excellent standard. Theatercafeen is a legendary Viennese-style establishment with a unique ambience. Probably the best place in town for celebrity spotting, so get you’re cameras at the ready.

Oslo's nightlife is limitless with possibilities. There are countless bars, cafés and nightclubs to choose from and the atmosphere is friendly and inviting. Oslo's party animals quickly pick up new trends or make their own, and the places to go, to see and be seen, change from one week to the next.

Drenched with historic charm and feisty character this city has certainly adapted from a political point to a pivot of lively, vigorous and impressive location- well worth a visit.
