Royal Air Force Museum

The Royal Air Force Museum London, commonly known as the RAF Museum, is a museum dedicated to the history of aviation, and the British Royal Air Force in particular. The Museum is situated on the site of the original London Aerodrome in Colindale and was used for the great Hendon Air Shows between the two World Wars.

Opened in 1972 by Her Majesty the Queen the North London Museum is the only London attraction to house over 100 aircraft from around the world including some very early aircraft designs through to the latest modern day jets and military aircraft.

Five mammoth buildings contain over a hundred aircraft, artefacts, aviation memorabilia, fine art and photographs covering the history of aviation from early balloon flights to the latest jet fighters. To commemorate the 100th anniversary of powered flight, the Royal Air Force Museum expanded the site by a third and opened two new exhibition halls.

The Museum has over 100 aircraft. These include one of only two surviving Vickers Wellingtons left in the world and the Avro Lancaster S-Sugar, which flew 137 sorties. It also includes the only complete Hawker Typhoon and the only Boulton Paul Defiant in the world.

A second collection of exhibits is housed at the Royal Air Force Museum, Cosford (RAF Cosford) in Shropshire, 5 miles North West of Wolverhampton.

Grahame White Factory: 10.00 - 12.00
Battle of Britain Hall: 12.00 - 18.00
Aeronauts Interactive Centre: weekends & School Holidays: 10.00 - 18.00, weekdays: 10.30 - 16.30.

The Museum will be closed from Christmas Eve until Boxing Day and on New Year's Day during the Festive Season.
