We all look forward to our annual two weeks away with the family. However, many of us rankle at the thought that we are penalised on price because we have children of school age and have to take our breaks during the school holidays. It seems we are right to be annoyed by the price hike.
Family holidays taken while school is out can cost up to 71 per cent more than during term time recent research has shown.
And with penalties for dragging children out of school increasing, more and more families are left with no option but to pay the premium when they go away.
The mark-up isn't limited to trips abroad, but equally applies for holidays taken in the UK said the report from a leading investment firm.
Wide disparities between both destination and point of departure were found to exist, with Florida and London being the two most expensive locations.
"Price hikes can hit parents hard during the school holidays, when resorts and travel companies know that families have to take their summer holiday," said a spokesman for the company.
"Whilst efforts are being made to reduce the premiums parents face, our latest research shows that Britons should shop around when planning their holiday destination to avoid paying over the odds for their summer break.”
The company conducted its research by comparing an identical holiday's prices in both August and September, finding that all destinations cost more during the holiday season – with one exception.
The best way to combat the price hike is to shop around. Great deals can be found on the internet. Many holiday firms have special late booking offers for last minute deals. Other firms have low rates if you book well in advance.
Finding the best value family travel insurance quotes online allows families to save some cash on their holidays. Get online to find the best deals, but make sure you read the small print. It is important that the policy covers all the activities you are planning on your holiday.
