Shakespeare’s Globe celebrates the fact that the greatest dramatic poet in the English language lived and worked in London and that the cradle of English theatre was on Bankside by the River Thames. Every year the theatre celebrates Shakespeare's Birthday in the lead-up to the new Theatre Season on 23 April. For the event the theatre offers a free day of family events, activities, games and performances.
Founded by the pioneering American actor and director Sam Wanamaker, Shakespeare's Globe is a unique international resource dedicated to the exploration of Shakespeare's work and the playhouse for which he wrote, through the connected means of performance and education.
The Globe is an international focal point for the study of Shakespeare in performance. The facilities at Bankside are a resource for students, teachers and academics from all over the world and Shakespeare’s Globe provides educational programmes and publishes material for students at all levels. Also on the site is a dedicated exhibition to Shakespeare's life and works.
Visitors can enjoy a performance and entertain guests in an exclusive private box at the Globe. The richly decorated and historically authentic Gentlemen's Rooms offer premium views of the stage. Each box holds up to ten people. With champagne served in the box and a pre-performance meal with wine in the Brasserie, this exclusive package makes for an unforgettable evening.
