Stay At Home To Go Away

15:36 Mon 24th May 2010 |

Many of us are feeling the pinch as the credit crunch stretches on and on. For most of us this means doing without little luxuries like eating out, a night on the town and apparently going abroad on holiday.

There are close to seven million people in the UK who have not left the region to go on holiday, it has been reported.

According to a leading bank, 15 per cent of people have stayed within the British Isles for vacations, with almost one in four of these hailing from the east Midlands and Anglia. This is great news for the UK tourist industry. Why not visit this beautiful country we live in? There are many interesting and historic sites to visit and plenty of places ideal for family getaways.

It can be relatively easy to save money by going on holiday in the UK. The first saving is of course getting there, with airport tax; it seems, continually rising, driving or taking the train is now becoming a real alternative on short haul travel. Plus both methods are more environmentally friendly.

If you do your research on the internet, accommodation can be found at very economic prices. This can also be made even cheaper by going at off peak times of the year. Many holiday destinations in the UK have deals to fill their places when the season is slow.

However, it is important to remember that some things must be included in your holiday budget even if you are staying in the British Isles, for example insurance.

Many of the problems that you can encounter abroad can also happen here in the UK on holiday, so it is important to ensure that you have adequate cover. Although we all hope that our holidays are trouble free, very often this is not the case. You or your family may become ill or have an accident, even something as simple as you car breaking down can still cause much heart ache if you are not covered.
