Wensleydale 'could be good for bargain UK break'

The name Wensleydale is synonymous with the Wallce and Gromit series of animated features, as it is the favourite cheese of both of the starring characters who often enjoy the aforementioned dairy product on crackers.

For those looking to get away to somewhere a little different next year, the town of Wensleydale may be the perfect place for you.

"Wensleydale could be a good place to take a bargain UK break", one travel industry agent asserted.

The town – which lies in the Yorkshire Dales National Park - has been highlighted in the Observer's travel section.

It reports it is a good place to visit during the spring as this is when the weather is "lovely".

"The Dales are ideal for hiking, the fields abound with wild flowers and newborn lambs and the village pubs have outdoor tables for sunny days," it said.
 

"If you do choose to visit some of the great sights around the town then bring some sturdy walking shoes with you, as you may sorely regret trying to hike around in trainers".

As mentioned before, the town is famous for it's pale, crumbly cheese that is the weapon of choice for Wallace and Gromit. This can be found in abundance across this lovely town, so make sure you bring some back from your friends before you leave.

Jervaulx Abbey is suggested as an attraction worth a visit, where 15th century monks first introduced the synonymous dairy produce to the area.

Nearby Middleham is also mentioned as it is an "important horse racing town".

The National Park Authority describes the Dales as a "special place".

It covers an area of 1,762 square kilometres and was first established in 1954.
