What happened to Southern Ireland?

I adore Southern Ireland and go for a holiday every year. But why, when the weather man reads the UK weather, do they completely blank it ?? As if it doesn't exist?? It really annoys me.

Well, on one hand, the Republic of Ireland is not part of the UK, so why should they?

However, I agree with you - BBC channels can be viewed in Dublin and probably elsewhere in Ireland, so it should be included as a matter of courtesy.

Oh, and I'm biased, being of Irish descent!

Terrestrial BBC is also viewable in parts of The Netherlands, Belgium, France, etc. and satellite coverage increases the broadcast footprint much further afield. Therefore UK weather for the UK seems entirely reasonable to me.

It's a simple matter of funding and remit. The Met Office isn't funded to forecast weather for the ROI. It also doesn't cover the Channel Islands and Isle of Man, which have their own forecasting operations paid for by local taxpayers.
