Are there any archives where I can ascertain the weather in Middlesbrough on 1st July 1947?

Give over zac. Monkey Hangers are from Hartlepool. Smoggies are from Middlesbrough.
If you yourself are in Middlesborough yourself, does your local library keep newpapers (usually on microfilm) of the local paper?
The council or the local water company may have records - generally they were the bodies that kept them in those days. It's probably not going to be that easy to find out precise details for a particular locality.

What I can tell you is that on that day, the UK was under a ridge of high pressure. It's likely that the weather in Middlesbrough was dry, but possibly not that warm because a light on-shore breeze could well have been blowing.
