This is The Lady Radley (aka Handbaglady) bidding “Welcome” to all MM Linkers as I embark on my second round as Royal Setter. When I first joined AnswerBank, I almost chose the user name Rottie -- not for my fierce temper (I’m actually quite sweet tempered) but for my life-long love of dogs. My parents owned a cat called “Tinker” and would not allow me to have a dog (no matter how often I nagged them). However, about a year after getting married, my husband (John) and I became the proud owners of a German Shepherd named “Judy”. She had been trained as a rescue dog and soon became a family member loved by all -- especially by our daughter, Victoria.
When Judy went to Doggy Heaven, we were lost without a dog about the house, but were undecided as to what breed to have. That is, until John was working away from home and saw a Rottweiler, which was a rather rare breed in those days. After researching the breed, we decided it was the dog for us. It took us a year to find an available puppy. Having had two false alarms from kennels in Scotland, we found some puppies for sale at Weybridge, Surrey. Victoria had been disappointed so many times by these false alarms that we told her that we were going down to London on business, when in fact we were going to pick up the new puppy (which we decided to call “Sheba”). Sheba turned out to be a typical puppy, alert and full of energy.

I eventually learned that a work colleague owned and showed pedigree Labradors and this sparked an interest in us. With John was still working away from home, I filled my free time attending classes in Ring Craft. We were soon caught by the “Dog Show” bug, travelling the length and breadth of England, Scotland and Wales to various shows. Of course, bags were needed to carry all the paraphernalia which were required both by humans and dogs at the shows. I didn’t realise it then, but that was probably when my fascination with bags started. What was needed was a suitable bag to accommodate all the doggy items, a bag for picnics (large enough to accommodate flasks), a bag for a change of clothes (if we had to stay overnight) and last but not least a handbag for myself. I was always on the lookout for a more suitable bag, especially if we were going to Crufts. My favourite bags are manufactured by Radley!
After Sheba settled down, we soon realised that when John was home Sheba didn’t want to know me. We felt the time was right to get a second Rottweiler puppy, so we purchased “Sara” from a breeder in Farnham Surrey. When she reached the age of six months (and could be shown) this meant new bags were needed to replace the old ones, which weren’t big enough to hold everything needed for two dogs -- that was my excuse anyway! Furthermore, with two dogs to transport we needed a bigger car and so purchased a Land Rover Safari LWB. Over time, lasting friendships were formed with people with similar interests.

As for today’s Word Game, for the every-day running of MM, I shall follow the usual rule on word length as introduced by crofter. Each of my chosen link words contains at least four letters and at most eight. Stray outside this range and you will be wasting one of your attempts! Each of my selected words may go in front of or after my challenge word. The competition will officially close at 7.00pm on Sunday evening when crofter will declare my selected words, then apply the same rules for awarding points that have been applied during all MM Link Games in the past. My second set of four words to have their links predicted should appear below at 9.00am.
