Creamed Corn? Are You Serious?
26 Answers
Hey, was in my cupboard and found a can with half a label and it says CREAMED CORN. I can't remember ever buying this and can't see the ingrdients. What exactly is creamed corn and do you do with it? Sounds like a pukefest just waiting to happen or could be the best thing since sliced bread though I'm a bit apprehensive to open it.
Any ideas?

This is a well known product in the USA and among people elsewhere in the world - some members of my family miss it. It was previously more widely available in the UK but it is quite a while since I saw it on sale. It is basically normal sweet corn which has been cooked longer than the simple kernel variety, it tastes pretty much identical although the creamed version has a stronger corn flavour. It can be eaten straight from the tin or warmed up or else added to dishes, but it should not be boiled/cooked further. There are lots of things I would describe as revolting, creamed corn is not on the list.
It's a treat here in the U.S. and can be bought in grocery stores. It's simply canned corn that's been partially pureed to release some of the starch and sugars in the corn kernels. In the commercial versions (Del Monte, etc.) there's no milk or cream added. In homemade version sometimes a little actual cream and a sprinkle of sugar are added, but not much.
