Unexplained Sound

My HP laptop has suddenly taken to giving out a mid pitch intermittent bong sound. This is not the same as I hear on arrival of new messages into the mailbox. Why?

Do you use Facebook? Only that's developed a 'ping' sound every time anybody posts to something you're involved with. And bloody irritating it is, too.

Can you not switch it off in your PC Windows "sounds" settings ?

I will try - but it wasn't me who switched it on!

I think you'd have to turn it off in facebook itself, OG. And I've not been able to find out how yet.

To turn off sounds in Facebook, go to 'Settings' then 'Notifications' and 'On Facebook' and edit to turn off sound
