Having said that I would say it is more a PC monitor that can also be used as a TV, as opposed to a TV that can also be used as a PC monitor.
Is the TV tuner analogue or digital ?
In other words is it a freeview tuner, because if not you will need to buy a freeview box at some point, like when they turn off the analogue TV signal in a few years.
I have had a quick look at Samsung products and can confirm that you have bought one of the 940sm (Sync Master) LCD Monitor range. If I was you I would take it back and ask for a refund.
Have a look at www.pricerunner.co.uk or similar for price comparisons with your local Comet shop. My favourite is www.totaldigital.biz/ for value for money.
Seems you may have done OK. It may be you need some better speakers.

You seem to have conflicating answers from parkesquay and me.
Assuming you have bought the Samsung SM940MW then you have done OK.
Make sure it has the letters MW at the end (I think this stands for Multimedia and Widescreen).
There are other SM940 models that DO NOT have built in TV, like the SM940T or the SM940B or the SM940BF. They have NOT got built in TV.
If you have the MW then you are OK.
I don't think that this is a problem VHG it is that it would be much easier to buy the simplest useable device after all it is for an elderly lady. I don't think that adding speakers is the requirement here.
I had a look at pricerunner and the Samsung SyncMaster 931MP is a 19"LCD TV with built-in freeview but is not HD Price about 360.
