I have a new ASUS laptop, but I cannot for the life of me work out how to open the side CD drawer so I can load the CD I got with my printer. There are no buttons or anything that looks like it might be pressed.....help, please!

There should be a small button that is usually flush with the front bevel / plastic cover, next to the small led light that comes when it is in operation. Press that and it should open. Note you must have the laptop powered on.
Not all Asus models actually have an optical drive. Several models simply have a plastic cover over where an optical drive can be fitted. So you might be attempting the impossible!

Go into 'Computer' and look to see if an optical drive is shown there. If there isn't, your laptop hasn't got one. If there is, right-click on it and select 'Eject'.

Thanks for the swift reply, but there is no button of any kind near the drawer, just a little port with a symbol I can't make out. On my previous laptop, you just press in the drawer and it pops out. I've been fiddling about with it all evening, and it's driving me bonkers!
While you're still trying to work it out, remember that you can download your printer's software from the manufacturer's website (so you don't actually need to use an optical drive for the task that you're seeking to achieve).

Buenchico, I have a horrible feeling you might be right (I'm writing this on a different computer), as it looks like although there is the 'shape' of a drawer, it doesn't seem like it will open. If that is the case, how can I print from the ASUS? I've tried to do it, and although the ASUS recognises the HP printer, it won't print anything properly !
Crossed posts, I think!

(Remember that you can also insert the CD into a different computer, copy the files to a USB memory stick and then transfer them to your new laptop).

Many thanks for your help, Buenchico, I'll maybe try the memory stick work-around. That's an evening I'll never get back - I HATE computers!
