Oh went to a friend's funeral yesterday. There were some family members there, mother, father and two children. Not sure of the children's ages, but all through the funeral, including in the church the children were texting.

I think that is dreadful, not only that they were texting, but that the parents allowed them to.

What do you all think, would you have said something?

Disgraceful. The parents should be ashamed of themselves for not disciplining their children.

I agree rabet, they should have stopped them.
There are occasions when one has to bite one's tongue. Had you spoken to the children, they would probably have shrugged and said, "Whatever!" The parents would not thank you for highlighting their poor parenting skills. Sadly, your friend's funeral will remain in your memory for the wrong reason.
Would I have said something....absolutely not. It's more disrespectful to chance causing a scene at a funeral than some kids texting. That's even if they were texting. To be fair though there is nothing more boring than mass.

If the children were bereaved, then cut them some slack.
I went to a cremation once and the woman had two youngish childrern with her. The children got bored and the mother handed them both out a packet of crisps to eat so all through the service they were busy crunching. That didnt seem right either.!
Distinct lack of parenting skills, as not texting at a funeral should come under the general heading of "Manners"

Children will do exactly as they like, if we let them, so this is clearly the parents fault.
I think there is a lack of respect in general at funerals.
I went to one a couple of weeks ago and one of the mourners was wearing cut-offs and a scruffy tee-shirt.

I agree with what you say Marval - that is shocking
I think it would be a good idea if there were signs up banning mobile phones at churches, crematoriums etc. That should help and maybe the officiating vicar or priest could also mention it.
I think they usually do, Viv......not that folk always listen....

I was at my neighbour's funeral when the phone behind me rang with a very jolly tune.....the lady answered it then shuffled along the pew saying, in the usual loud mobile phone voice........Hold on...hold on....I'm at a funeral.....I'll just go outside.......☺
The kids probably knew no better. The parents should do their job and teach.

The kids don't seem to feel very bereaved if they opt to text rather than pay respects. Maybe an indication that one can be too young to be allowed a mobile phone ? Thank goodness they didn't bring their 'game boy', or whatever is in vogue these days.
I'm a 'dinasour' gness, I refuse to have a mobile 'phone. I hate them with a vengance !!
Unfortunately the corpse wasn't the only thing to be buried the kids heads in their phones buried as well! Disgusting disrespectful behaviour!
having lost both my parents in the last 15 year, i believe that the way we grieve has radically changed. in the past we would close the curtains, covered mirrors, worn black and all sorts of nonsense. now i think that we celebrate the of people instead of donning sack cloth and ashes. if the kids were not making any noise or disrupting matters then it s better that they were kept busy. i am in two minds about kids at funerals 1) they should be included in all family matters or 2) they should be protected at all costs what are bankers thoughts?
They should be given the option to be included, if they wish to. My family basically denied me the chance of 'seeing some relatives off'. It wasn't right.

Regardless of change over time, it will always be true that if one is not interested in the funeral then one ought not be there at all. It's irrelevant that they weren't disrupting (much).
