I would of thought so called intelligent university graduates would welcome the chance to debate with Ms Greer. That is what a debate is all about. To discuss differing views isn't it.
If Ms Greers views are unpopular then this is a platform for those who disagree to tell her so an why.
We often have gay pride debates and their rights to hold parades and how they should be accepted in society but it would seem they will gag other's views and veto a debate about certain issues they don't want others to discuss.

I'm not sure I agree with the comparison to gay pride/ lbgt events -- these are about encouraging an equal and diverse society, whereas views such as Germaine Greer's -- well, aren't really. All the same, student unions are far too quick to veto speakers these days for what seem to be very flimsy reasons. Germaine Greer here, too -- whose work has helped to advance social equality for women. Pretty self-defeating, really, to block her from speaking I'd say. Probably you could expect modern Student Unions to have tried the same thing for Gandhi, MLK, Churchill, plenty of others over the years -- basically anyone who isn't whiter than white ("that's racist!"), ie everybody.
This is such an strong example of history not just repeating itself but biting one on the bottom as well.
In the early 1970s radical feminists were - well, radical. Knowing a fair few at the time, you're talking people with serious humour bypasses who never missed any minute opportunity to rant, and would energetically vilify any hapless person for not toeing their line. Germaine was among the foremost.
Nowadays in academic circles, this position has been usurped by the trans agenda. Every opportunity is taken to point out how you, me, him, this course, that strategy is unacceptable as it isn't based round trans issues.
Not all students engage with this - yes, you get rent-a-crowd - but this vociferous minority scare decision makers. It's like playing the race card, and has the same effect.

I would use this principle here, "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it" often attributed to Voltaire.
But according to todays i Paper, Ms Greer said in 2009 that "the idea of being trans was a delusion" and went on to describe trans. women as "ghastly parodies"
She also said at a Cambridge University event, that she "didn't know that there was such a thing as transgender-phobia"
Perhaps she can tell us, if she eventually appears at Cardiff University, whether she has made her mind up or not, and why does she think its acceptable to be so rude about other people, who are in the position they are in due to no fault of their own.

What you report may well be true but as I wrote earlier.Why not let her talk at a debate and if her views are not fashionable or accepted then the students can try to shoot her views down if they are capable to do so.
It looks to me they are saying,"She's wrong.We are right.Period"

Retro...don't get me wrong...the students are perfectly OK to protest, but the best way to deal with Greer and this issue is for her to attempt to defend her views and words..... I have always believed daylight is a wonderful disinfectant !

Jomifl....I will admit to not knowing a great deal about the issue of transgender, but I understand that the uneasiness that these people feel about the sex that they are born into can be very damaging for them, and while they might have a decision that requires making about the surgery involved, the desire to change is beyond their control.
